      Chief Adept's Message 2010
Fratres of the Rose and Cross wheresoever dispersed, greetings and news from CT College.
I must, however, begin with a call of the workmen…
      Fr. Frederick H. Lorensen, 1922-1988
I am deeply saddened to report the loss of a dear Brother and friend, our Past Chief Adept Frederick H.  Lorensen, on August 26, 2010 just short of his 88th birthday. Fred was one of  the most respected and involved Masons any member of our Craft would ever have the distinct privilege of knowing, whether in CT or anywhere he traveled, and his loss will be remembered for many years to come.
As impressive as his accomplishments were, they fall short of describing this man's energy for life and service to mankind. A decorated veteran of  WWII, devoted husband of 60 years and father, a leader in his parish, and successful businessman, Fr. Fred still found time to serve the Masons of CT as Grand Master in 1983-83 and rise to venerated positions in the Supreme Council of the AASR, as well as numerous other  national appendant bodies.  Among his many venues outside CT, Fr. Fred was a frequent and familiar face at Masonic Week and had a unique gift to fashion and mold our Masonic landscape with his unique wisdom, grace and dignity and always with a gentle smile. Fr. Fred certainly fit the title of "A Mason's Mason" and was a personal mentor to me and many  others, I'm sure.
Please join me in extending to his Lady Carolyn and family our heartfelt sympathy and appreciation for sharing Fred with us.   Memorials donations may be made to the AASR Children's Learning Centers.
      Activity in CT College
On the eve of another season together,  a brief rundown of last year.
Our membership is steadily growing despite what the numbers say. We had some severe losses this past year, but offset by FIVE new Fraters. We now look to these and our other newer members to add their shared experiences and knowledge in advancing our common beliefs and providing us with new perspectives. I look forward to receiving their papers and sharing them with you. In fact one of these
new papers can be found with this update.
Creation of a second AMD Council is moving albeit slowly to expand our common ranks. In the meantime a number of AMD Brethren from just over the border in Massachusetts have joined us.  Their interest has given us a positive year and despite our CT losses, our SRICF membership has now reached our halfway mark.
We essentially completed all our Second Order Degrees for  the second time, with ease and familiarity, led by our Celebrant and Exponent. They have truly become a good team, but news that our Exponent is retiring away from CT will add a new challenge.
In the "projects" department, we finally have a "Pastos" which has added greatly to the symbolism and imagery in our  Second Order. That leaves "robes" for us to work on.
Our web page continues to draw interest, and communications from other Colleges, which overall echo much the same challenges we face in CT, but also a curiosity of the details in how we do what we do, ranging from questions about paraphernalia to the degree work.  To this end, and close to home, the Fratres of New Hampshire College are curious about our Zelator and may pay us a visit in October for our portrayal !
      In Closing……
I close this message with the remembrance that our journey through this life will never be complete, and only through our faith can we create in our hearts and minds a universal and eternal desire for all the enlightenment we can seek. Armed with this knowledge, we will embrace with joy His Eternal Kingdom when our mortal journey comes to an end, and be reunited with our Fratres in Christ our Saviour.  Farewell, good and faithful servant Fred, until we meet again.
      Amen. Amen
      Fr. William L. Miller, IX
      Chief Adept, CT College
