      Chief Adept's Message 2012
Fratres of the Rose and Cross wheresoever dispersed,
I am once again pleased to bring you up to date on happenings in Connecticut College.
Last year certainly had its challenges as we bounced from one unconveniently timed severe weather event to another as snows, rains, a summer tornado and hurricane, and even Halloween blizzard, played havoc with our Masonic calendar. Yet we were able to gather together (weather permitting) and still accomplish some good things.
With memories still fresh from visits by CAs Bob Poyton from Rhode Island College and Richard Cole from New Hampshire, and their travelling companions, we kindled a spirit of increasing our fraternalism among colleges in the Northeast and sharing our event calendars on-line. Due to conflicts in our schedule, we in CT were sadly not able to join the mid-Atlantic gathering of Colleges in May but look forward to future such opportunities.
Networking has other benefits. Though heartened by initial news from the Supreme Magus regarding paraphernalia and supplies, we find that sharing ideas with other poor Colleges is helpful in "interpreting" how we can differently fashion our trappings to produce the same heightened effect !
Our membership continues to expand, albeit slowly, as deaths and retirees move away, but offset by a new pool of young and talented AMD Brothers from Western Massachusetts, who cross our border to join SRICF here. To fill a void left by retiring Bill Lott Gr VIII, two Fratres were elevated to Gr VIII, Richard Eppler and Charles Maxson, well known in New England York Rite circles.
We have a backlog of Gr IV Fratres hard at work on their papers, or so I'd like to think from their assurances. We did however receive two new papers, which are newly posted for your reflection and enjoyment.
Our familiarity, comfort and understanding of our degrees is coming along well, led by our Celebrant and Exponent. We came back to finish our second cycle VIIth degree, after we looped back to I and II for the edification and convenience of our candidates. And the extra time spent on the VIIth was fruitful, spawning a full meeting's discussion on the Lecture alone !
      In Closing
In closing, I think a SRICF emergence is at hand. Inquiries about Masonic Rosicrucianism still find me from time to time, mostly young Master Masons curious about what we do and how to join, but many with a perception that it is for a "select" group of old, gray Past Grand "Wizards", way high up in the Masonic food chain. I usually begin my rebuttal by agreeing - "Yes, many of us are Past Grand "Wizards", but young Christian Master Masons may join, if invited. But in order to have a full appreciation and be able to interact freely and deeply in SRICF, one is better served by a foreknowledge of the York Rite teachings and tenets and even the Scottish Rites. Though not a requirement, a young Mason, armed with all the "Light" he can acquire, will fare much better than one without. As for being a Grand Wizard, some of us just take longer than others to figure this out…..but here's a York Rite petition anyway." Believe it or not, in the way of Adoniram, a few have tracked me down at Masonic gatherings seemingly inspired by my earlier answer and happy to report they have joined a Chapter. So we're out there !
fter all, is it not good to share the enlightenment our Blessed Saviour has revealed to us, in a way and manner not unlike His disciples learned from him and taught others ? If we pray this to be true, not just now or just before the end when our darkness is upon us, but forever, then our journey beyond can only be filled with His Comfort and Eternal Love, as he taught us it would be.
      Amen. Amen
