Uniforms The Grand Commandery of Virginia has uniform requirements in its constitution and statutes but they can be hard to decipher. In addition, if you don’t know where to look, putting a uniform together can be pretty difficult and expensive. For these reasons, we have put together some links to items you might find useful and affordable. Note that these uniform items are listed for Sir Knights who are not past commanders. If you are a PC or past something else, you likely know where to get your specific items, but feel free to contact us anyway if you need help.

If you need to put together a uniform piece by piece, that is fine. This is an expensive process and everyone understand that it might take months to assemble the whole magilla. If you need to borrow items, talk to the Commander, Recorder, or Armorer. We have some items, even full suits, to loan to Sir Knights, so take advantage of that as you need to.

Style of uniform

These items below are for the full uniform. If you choose, you can wear the fatigue uniform or summer uniform, but each Sir Knight should have the full uniform if he has any type at all. Note that the Orders can only be conferred in full uniform.

Who should have the uniform?

If you are a Sir Knight or thinking of joining, do not be scared by the cost of the uniform. If you are an officer or are getting ready to get in line, you should have a uniform or should be on your way to piecing something together. As a general rule, each Sir Knight should have a uniform. However, non-officers are not required to have it. But you will look pretty darned cool once you have it.

Uniform Coat and Trousers – Black double-breasted suit with two columns of front buttons. This is the same as a Chief Petty Officer’s service dress jacket. Note: order this without sleeve crosses. Order WITH shoulder Velcro if you plan on being a dais officer. Of course, that can always be added later.
